March 25 #writemotivation update

1. Spend at least an hour a day working on something writing related: Had a brain storm on SW and SW 2 both this week, so spent more than my fair share of work time working on that. Didn’t get so much done on the weekend, on my stuff, but I started working on crit for a friend, so that’s nice. Plus the Secret Project has shifted gears, and I’m VERY excited at the direction it’s taking!
2. Read at least 15 books– 2 internship book so far this month, 14 regular books=16! It was one of those weeks I ended up bouncing around between a bunch of them, and just didn’t feel like I had enough hours in the days in the first place. But that’s okay, I’ve already met my goal for the month. If I get more done, that’s fine too. 🙂
3. Keep up on crits.- Did good on this. Actually starting early on one that I told a friend to send and I’d poke at it in April.
4. Walk to work every day.- Whoot. Doing well on this, despite the temptation on rainy, nasty days to catch a bus. And oh there was temptation last week! One morning, I forget which day, it was so cold and rainy and nasty, I just wanted to curl up!

How is there still another week left in this month? OMFG this month has felt SO long. Probably because there’s been so much going on. The seder is later today, and I’ve spent the weekend cooking up a storm! Recipes to come belatedly, because I didn’t measure on a whole lot of things…. Oops! The menu looks something like this:
Jewish Style Brisket. Latkes. Chicken Soup (with optional matzo balls). Kniedelach (which I always spell in like 10 different ways. But I say it’s okay, because it’s transliterated from Hebrew or Yiddish anyway!). Asparagus. Geflite Fish (yes, it’s as gross as they say! We get a local fish company to make this, because Eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww!!!). Charosets. A small mountain worth of matzoh. Enough wine to drown a whale in.
It’s pretty damn fun! But when you’re doing it for 50-100 people, it’s a LOT of work. This year is a small one. It’s on a Monday, which meant a lot of people who would normally come couldn’t get off work, and because everyone had just gone out to LA last month for that wedding, a lot of people weren’t feeling like travelling. So it’s just the local folks for the most part this year, from NY, PA, NJ, and such. Should be nice, though I’ll miss some of the folks who aren’t coming.

WOW, that’s a lot of food. It sounds like an an amazing feast! I had to Google a few of those things, I’ve no shame in admitting, but I’m impressed just the same. Hope it goes well!

You’re rocking your goals. 16 books! Hah, I wish! I’ve done better lately at reading faster, but my trouble these days is I slow down when I’m enjoying a book. Need to pick up the speed.

Oh, trust me. The only reason I know what many of them are is because the first year I went, they were just on the plates and I ate things… and then went, “So, what was that?!!” 😉
It went VERY well, thanks!! It was a blast this year!! And yeah, I do that too. And then read a couple Meh books to compensate sometimes.

Ha! That’s very brave of you! I tend to ask *first*. But then, I probably miss out on a lot of tasty things that way… So glad it went well! How could it not, with all that good stuff? 😀

Brave has less to do with it than 1. Trusting that if there were anything really strange, I would have been warned about it and 2. The only things I really detest, food wise, are shrimp/clams (which they couldn’t have served, because they’re not kosher). There are some things I’m really picky about (all other seafood), but I figured I’d take a small bite, see if I liked it, and if it was really bad, I just would skip that piece.

I love all these posts…it’s like chatting, but not. 🙂

I couldn’t imagine cooking for that many people! WOW! and I love love love learning about other religions, trraditions, and food! So, what exactly is a seder? I’ll probably google it and find out before you respond…or forget to because…oooooo shiney!!!

Ok, yeah…so Um duh! Why didn’t I put two and two together? Passover, I know. But I’ve not heard of the Seder 😉 Now, I do. hehe

*laughs* The fun part, for me, is how it varies depending on who is doing it! Like, the last few years, it’s been led by a person who has a historical and deep religious leaning. This year it was run by another family member who kept it light and fun, and it was very much a case of looking at the clock going, “Oh, crap, how’d it get so late!!” It helps too this year a lot of the kids are old enough to be fun and entertaining! *laughs*
